Panasonic Corp. said Friday it will spend Y45 billion to build a new solar cell factory in Malaysia.

Panasonic Corp. is gearing up to handle all aspects of solar cell production, from manufacturing the cells from silicon wafers to assembling them into panels, outside Japan for the first time through the construction of a Malaysian plant, The Nikkei learned Thursday.
